PMU Participation in the 5th AFRAC General Assembly held in Ethiopia

The African Accreditation Cooperation (AFRAC) and the Ethiopian National Accreditation Office (ENAO) invited the TBT Programme to AFRAC’s 5th General Assembly and Meetings, held in September 2014 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The event comprised a number of workshops on different subjects such as: AFRAC MRA decision making, new and emerging accreditation bodies and accreditation toolkit. Various working groups were also organised including: MRA committees and technical committees in order to discuss on specific issues related to accreditation cooperation in Africa. The week ended with the 5th AFRAC General Assembly.
During the week, new and emerging standards bodies, prioritised scopes for implementation for the AFRAC mutual recognition agreement, working group conveners, 2015 work plans, partnerships were among the issues discussed. The event was an opportunity for the TBT programme to get an overview of the trend in accreditation in Africa and potential areas for intervention.
The TBT Programme was also able to meet and network with a number of potential beneficiaries of the Programme such as: Laboratoire de sécurité alimentaire et de l’hygiène de l’environnement (LSAHE) Institut Pasteur, Senegal; East African Community; Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS); Ethiopian National Accreditation Organisaiton (ENAO); Eco Mark Africa.
The AFRAC members ended the 5th General Assembly by expressing their appreciation to the different partners present and among them the ACP-EU-TBT Programme, for its support of AFRAC and attendance at the 5th General Assembly Opening Ceremony. The AFRAC members look forward to their continued support.
