A new born intiative in the sector of accreditation and competitiveness for Africa has recently been launched : « FRAC 2014 : Forum Regional sur l’Accréditiation et la Compétitivité en Afrique ».  The main objective of the forum is to promote competitiveness and performance of African services as well as export products at a regional and international levels by developing quality infrastructure entities (metrology, certification and accreditation).

 

Additionnally the Forum is to contributeto the harmonization of non-tariff barriers national strategies and to ensure protection of the African national markets against imported products of poor quality in the context of a regional approach.‚Äč

FRAC will be held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, from the 6th until the 10th of October 2014 and will include a number of activities such as : training sessions of Focal Points on quality and accreditation related issues ; meetings of experts’ committee ; round tables and debates gathering different stakeholders of the accreditation sector in Africa ; sessions of exchange of best practices and countries’ experiences ; thematic workshops on quality infrastructure ; business meetings ; institutional debates and ministerial meetings.

600 participants are expected to participate to the forum coming from 40 different countries worldwide and from different professional horizons : enterprises, certification bodies, regional and international accreditation entities, ministries of industry trade and regional integration, regional economic communities and financial partners.

The TBT Programme recognizes the importance of such initiative at the African level and has already provided some startegic guidance to the FRAC Organisation Committee for a good implementation of the different activities foreseen.  The TBT Programme is and will remain one of the key partners of the Forum, wishing that FRAC 2014 will be the first session of a long lasting initiative.
